Theatrical Improv

So this spirit in a body, what does it do?

Like a wild child, I'm rediscovering everything this vessel is capable of, all of the potential, movement and capacity for bringing forth story, creating worlds, shaping thoughts, seeing what is possible and what is seeking expression.

What does it mean to be a fluid, dynamic being? Can I go there, into spaces within myself and another that I've never reached before? The practice of Acting is teaching me what it means to embody more of myself. Identity is not a static thing. We create it with our thoughts and mind, and thus make it visible in our physicality. Acting is to find freedom within one's sense of self. Performing a good story provides the space for cathartic release and a chance to step into someone else's shoes in a way I've never done before. It builds empathy and allows me to connect with more of the human condition outside of the framework how I personally know myself to be. When I put on a story, like a new dress, I find the places that fit, the spaces I naturally relate to and flow into.

We are having a blast building ensamble at Piven,

exploring the farthest reaches

of expressive improvisation in the theater.

Have a look at what we are creating...

Thanks to Chris Zoubris

for capturing these striking moments.
